What does Cheek Enhancement do?
Cheeks are a very important feature of the mid-face and people blessed with a full and curve cheeks tend to have a more youthful look. As we age, the cheeks lose volume, flatten and droop, making one look aged and tired. In addition, the deflated and drooping cheeks lead to the formation of jowls (the sag around the chin area), and nasolabial folds (the line from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth). All these drooping skin changes further aggravate the aging look.
Restoring volume and enhancing the cheeks with cosmetic fillers is therefore necessary when we are rejuvenating the face. Fillers can be used to add volume to the cheeks, lifting the skin and restoring the shape while adding height to the cheekbones. In general, high cheekbones and beauty often go hand in hand. Besides beautifying the cheeks, filler injections to the mid face can help improve some of the skin sagging affecting the lower portion of the face.

What does Cheek Filler treatment involve?
Cheek filler injection is usually done on outpatient basis and Dr Wong prefers using one of the following fillers: Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Perlane or Sculptra. All these fillers are FDA approved and HSA registered
Topical anesthesia or local anesthesia will be administered to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for the patient. Once anesthesia is achieved, the area to be treated will be cleaned with antiseptic. Dr Wong may either inject the fillers into the cheeks using a cannula method or needle method. The amount of filler required will vary from person to person, depending on the amount of volume loss to begin with, and the degree of enhancement desired. The whole procedure takes 15-30 minutes.

What should I expect after treatment?
The result of cheek enhancement is immediately visible. In most cases, makeup may be immediately reapplied if desirable. You may resume normal activities but avoid massaging the treated area for 1 -2 weeks.
Sometimes, there may be a slight redness or swelling of the skin. This usually disappears after half a day or by the following day. Bruises may sometimes occur when the needle injection method is used and it may take 3 to 7 days for the bruise to disappear.
